Britni Elizabeth - Artist Bio
Growing up in Miami, there are cuban spots on every other street corner. Where sharing perfectly brewed colada (Cuban Coffee) with the homies is a daily ritual. The food, music, and cultural influences of my Trinidadian-Chinese family and hispanic neighbors brought me to life. I hope that through my work I can impact those around me in the same positive manner and open-minded mentality that my upbringing has done for me.
In 2004, I was accepted into Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH). I studied a variety of design disciplines; including, but not limited to Interior Design, Fashion Design, and 3D Sculpture. In 2012, I moved to Palm Beach; expanding my repertoire I took courses in 3D Sculpture, Pottery (throwing on the wheel), and Advanced Drawing & Painting. In 2015, I graduated with a Bachelor's in Art History and a Minor in Studio Art.
With a merchandising background, an eye for design and basic HTML knowledge I have become an expert in the Digital Marketing field. Currently, I am a freelance as a Digital Marketer. Some of my clients include Plenty of Hype Clothing, RE/MAX House of Real Estate, Peace Pipe Smoke Shop, Cool Breeze Villa vacation rental, The Felon and the Drunk Podcast, and several real estate agents.
Frequently asked questions
FROM WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR INSPIRATION?
I find inspiration to create in almost every aspect of my life. It is my core belief that art is nothing more than a form of human expression – visual in most cases, but also found in tactile, spatial and sometimes aural forms. I am often inspired by other artists. Growing up in Miami, FL graffiti & muralists cover slabs of grey concrete with spray paint in a variety of striking colors. I have a fondness for works of art that are highly ornate, rich in color, and create tension with intense light and dark shadows. I am, also, stimulated by a diverse range of music. If there was a soundtrack to my life it would be laced with dramatic jazz inspired beats and sample tracks of cartoon clips.
HOW DID YOU DEVELOP YOUR STYLE?
Like everything else in my life, it is a combination of many facets. Although, I have a formal art education many of my educators encouraged my work that contained mixed media and found objects. Working intuitively is very important to me. I try to draw or express what feels good instead of getting too technical or over-thinking the drawing process.
WHERE DID YOU STUDY?
At 8 years old, I started taking private 2D drawing & painting classes at the Learning Tree of Arts in Miami, FL. I attended these lessons every semester until my final year of middle school. In 2004, freshman year of high school, I was accepted and attended Design and Architecture Senior High, Miami, FL; where I studied a wide variety of design disciplines; including, but not limited to Interior Design, Fashion Design, and 3D sculpture. I was expected to graduate in 2009, but due to unforeseen circumstances I dropped out. It took me almost 3 years of working a dead end job to realize I wanted to go back to school. I continued my education at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. My studies were focused on Art History learning about the masters that came before me. I took elective courses in 3D sculpture, Pottery (throwing on the wheel), and advanced drawing & painting. I received my Bachelor's in Art History in 2015.
BUT HOW DID YOU GET INTO GRAPHIC AND WEB DESIGN?
I would have to thank the creators of Xanga, Tom from MySpace and Tim Berners-Lee for inventing HTML. If it wasn't for the internet giving 12 year old me an outlet to burn myself out till 4am I probably wouldn't be where I am today. Luckily, back in 2002 web forums held all the answers to my geeky tech questions. Today, it's second nature to ask Google for help when you are stumped. So yeah, I got into it because free knowledge was made readily available by access to the wonderful world wide web!
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
I've been side hustling as a freelance Graphic Designer & Marketing Specialist since 2010. On and off I find myself creating pencil figure drawings of women lounging comfortably or daydreaming. Recently, I have been designing a series of animations. I am, also, working on several side projects to expand my knowledge in PPC Campaigns.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE?
In the long term I have the ambition of being able to live purely off my artistic ventures, but for the time being I am thoroughly enjoying the commercial work I am doing. With every new project I take on I share delight in turning my clients ideas into reality.
